SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE MK.IX & MK.X

In February 2022, we are proud to launch a new book series that will focus on Classic aircraft.

In it, we will bring you a really close look at some of the most iconic aircraft that were used mainly in the Second War War or immediately after it.

And what better way to start it than with the legendary Supermarine Spitfire, more specifically the Mk.IX and Mk.XVI. Of these types, 39 are currently in airworthy condition. In this 116 page book, over 30 of them are included!

The differences between the types are all shown in this book, even the Electronic warfare version, the C-160G Gabrile, in service with the Armée de l’Air is included, even though only two of them were ever built. More than 250 photos show the Transall in detail and some surprising dynamic action!

With over 280 photos !

As with all our books, the aircraft in this new “Classic Series” will be shown both in action and in detail. The latter includes the entire fuselage, wings, vertical tail and of course the cockpit.

There are quite a few subtypes for this version of the Spitfire and of course, we will put the spotlight on the differences between them.

The action pages include some stunning, never before published air-to-air photographs.

Both the high back and low back Spitfires are included.

We show the different wing variants; c-wing, e-wing and clipped wings. As always, a huge maintenance chapter is included in the first book of our newest series!

The Spitfire Mk.IX was such a successful aircraft due to the upgraded Merlin engine with which it was equipped. Both this engine and the Packard built Merlin used in the Spitfire Mk.XVI are shown in detail!
